Elliot Murphy, PhD student at NUIG, presented his work at MaNaPro & ECMNP 2019 (Peniche, Portugal) on the isolation of two new compounds isolated from Halidrys siliquosa, a brown alga collected in Irish waters. For this work, Elliot used freeze dried material present in the Marine Biodiscovery repository. See abtract below.
Kevin Calabro, postdoctoral researcher at NUIG, presented his work at MaNaPro & ECMNP 2019 with an oral communication. His presentation focused on the Marine Biodiscovery laboratory workflow and on the isolation and structure elucidation of sixteen new molecules from the polychaete Eupolymnia nebulosa. This annelid, abundant on intertidal shores, was collected in the west coast of Ireland by the Marine Biodiscovery team.
Navdeep Kaur, research assistant at NUIG/ Marine Institute, presented a Poster at MaNaPro & ECMNP 2019. The poster aimed to show the management procedures behind the Irish Marine Biodiscovery laboratory, from the collection of samples till the entry of data into the database, passing through the dereplication, biological / chemical screening and prioritization.
Laurence Jennings, postdoctoral researcher at NUIG/Marine Institute, presented a Poster at MaNaPro & ECMNP 2019. The focus of the poster was the isolation of two new bisindole alkaloids from Spongosorites calcicola collected in the Celtic seas. These compounds give new insights into the biosynthetic pathway of similar marine bisindole alkaloids. These represent an important family of marine natural products with pharmaceutical potential.
